Nethra Kumanan is the first ever Indian female to qualify for the Olympic Games. She started sailing at the age of 14 through a summer sailing camp organised by Tamil Nadu Sailing Association. Nethra became an U17 champion in 2012 and since then her life turned towards success. She represented India at the 2014 and 2018 Asian Games. Nethra Kumanan became the first Indian woman to win a World Cup medal in Sailing when she clinched a bronze medal at 2020 Sailing World Cup in Miami, USA. Nethra currently trains in Gran Canaria, Spain with two times Olympian Mr. Tamas Eszes.
